“Drew Tucker is a wonderful educator and performer. Students from beginner to professional would do well to study with him and the other educators at his academy, and with faculty like University of Miami graduate, Matt Koger, you cannot go wrong.“

Music Enrichment Programs and Performance Ensembles

The scope and variety of the Tucker Academy programs provide skill-appropriate opportunities for all children to participate in at various stages of their development and maturity. All Academy programs are designed to discover, nurture, and develop the "artist in every child." Thousands of young lives have been enhanced through skill mastery, self-expression, and teamwork designed to develop self-esteem, confidence, and self-respect.

The Children's Program - Music and Movement (for ages 3-10) has weekly, age appropriate, classes, combining music fundamentals, form, ear training, rhythm, movement, singing, sight reading, and performance. Children individually and collectively participate in fully interactive games and projects that incorporate all the elements of music making and making music. Solo performance and chamber music ensemble performance are also available to qualified children. Parents are welcome to sit in the classroom as a comfort to young children.

Flute Choir - has bi-weekly rehearsals, which focus on flute ensemble performance and technique. This class is for mature flutists with a desire to experience intimate ensemble participation in order to advance as a young musician. This class is mainly a performance group and will be performing at local venues throughout the semester including the tucker academy recitals.

Piano Class - This is a comprehensive piano course conducted in a group, allowing children to systematically acquire overall musical abilities. It is therefore ideal for those young students wishing to learn traditional piano technique. Children studying in this course will develop not just piano playing skills, but also the fundamentals of music through solfege, (do-re-me etc...) rhythm, notation, ensemble and improvisation.

The World Percussion Ensemble - is a chamber group dedicated to the performance of significant percussive styles from around the globe and is open to all students regardless of their principal instrument of study. Percussion traditions from various cultures, including Cuba, Brazil, India, West Africa and the Middle East are explored through performance and cultural research. In addition, the World Percussion Ensemble occasionally collaborates with faculty and students from the UW dance program. Through hands- on experience in performance, small-group instruction, and master classes, the Percussion Emphasis provides an excellent working knowledge of all the instruments and styles essential for today's percussionist.

The Vocal Ensemble - offers students many exciting learning and performance opportunities including the development of musical and vocal skills and the exploration of a wide-variety of musical styles. The Tucker Academy welcomes all interested children, kindergarten-age and older.

The Guitar Class - members will learn to play basic chords and to play songs in Latin, folk, jazz, and rock styles. Also covered: tuning, guitar care, and basic strums. No prerequisites, but an acoustic guitar is required.

Performance Class - children practice the basics of dress code, presentation, announcements, posture, performance, acknowledging the audience, accepting applause, and leaving the 'stage'. This class will include guest performers and lecturers. This class is held twice a month and attendance at one class per month is mandatory for all academy students and is included in all tuition packages.

Leadership - is a powerful program designed to uncover, deepen and build on your natural strengths as a leader. The program is designed to foster the development of a diverse community of young peers and leaders who grow and learn together through a variety of experiences that include interactive exercises, and ongoing feedback.

Garage Band - This is a performance ensemble where students get to work with other students and write, create, and perform music in their favorite genres under the direction of one of one of our faculty.
